We are intending to allow people to create a simple, inexpensive bluetooth compatible speaker. We wanted any level of user to be able to create this speaker, regardless of experience. We currently have two versions of this project. The first is made by creating the shell of the speaker from a cardboard cutout. The second is from a 3D printed shell. Both speakers use the same electronics and fabric housing, it’s just the shells material that differs. This project went through many iterations and was well received. These initial prototypes were created from 6mm birch plywood and stained with food safe dyes. The shape of the pieces allows children to create large or small structures using only cardboard and Clover pieces. Children can easily draw, cut and shape the cardboard to create all kinds of amazing designs. The recently updated design using 3D printing as a manufacturing process and the shape has been updated to reflect this process. DBR - TED Talks : Design - Build- Research (Copy) TED Talks : Design - Build- Research I was involved in course outside of Emily Carr, run by local Architect Michael Green. The design purpose of this project was to create an outdoor space for the TED Talks 2015 attendies. Our Marquee structure sits on the waterfront overlooking the magnificent North Shore Mountains and Stanley Park. It also sits next to the beautiful Vancouver Convention Centre. The Marquee is built to enclose a temporary TED2015 picnic space on the west plaza of the Convention Centre. The structure will ultimately be moved to a new home in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver to become a market. I chose wood and concrete as materials to contrast the metal form the original lamp was made of. It’s shape is meant to be playful...yet functional.
